BUCK FARMS: HOME OF THE MAINE MALT HOUSE
Buck Farms started in 1958 growing potatoes and rotation crops. As with most farms in Aroostook County, our focus over the years has been on producing high quality potatoes. Grains have traditionally been used as a rotational crop - a way to add more nutrients to the soil to help support the potato crops - and then sold as a commodity. In 2014, we started focusing on producing the highest quality barley to malt and sell to breweries in our region. Our 2014 crop was a huge success and made excellent malt barley. Since then, we have been growing exceptional quality barley and other grains to support our malt house.
GROWING THE LOCAL ECONOMY
Our mission is to grow our local economy. We partner with other local farmers that grow exceptional quality barley to maintain a sustainable supply of raw barley to our malting facility. We are committed to using only the highest quality local grains that truly capture our local terroir.
